If you’re looking to get fit, you don’t have to fork out money for a gym membership. All you need is the super energetic Tanpopo, whose name means “dandelion” in Japanese.

In Japan, the dandelion represents resilience, care and strength due to the plant’s healing powers. Dandy lioness Tanpopo is gentle and affectionate, but also quite powerful, weighing about 24 kilograms.

Forget a gym membership — spending your days with the exuberant Tanpopo will surely keep you fit.

Tanpopo is new to ARK and just turned 4 years old. Her exuberance is contagious. She likes to fling herself onto the floor, legs skyward and tail thumping as she waits for a belly rub. She often looks very pleased with herself as shelter staff run around trying to keep up.

She’s not wild about other dogs but could be a civil housemate. What we know for certain is that Tanpopo will make a sweet companion for a dog-lover with energy to spare.

If you are interested in adopting, email ARK at [email protected] or call 050-1557-2763 (English or Japanese) Monday to Saturday (bilingual) for more information. Animal Refuge Kansai (with offices in Kansai and Tokyo) is an NPO founded by U.K. native Elizabeth Oliver. It is dedicated to rescuing and rehoming abandoned animals. All animals are vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. Prospective owners are required to undergo a screening process. Web: www.arkbark.net
